Lavish teak outdoor garden furniture is not something that many of us are familiar with because most traditional retailers don?t even sell it. In truth, shopping for outdoor furniture can actually be somewhat depressing when you really take the time to think about what the pieces are made from. Pine is a common wood used to make deck or patio furniture because it is both abundant and cheap. However, because it tends to have a low oil or sap content, pine wood tends to dry out fast which is why it is known to crack or splinter easily. Plus, pine furniture is very susceptible to rotting and insect damage even when you take the time to finish and repair it at the end of every season.
When manufacturers do not use pine, they often turn to plastic as the material of choice for making tables, chairs, and other pieces of patio or deck furniture. Although modern plastics are very durable and do not require any repair at the end of the season, they too are prone to cracking when the oils dry out. While typically more durable and reliable than pine, plastic outdoor furniture is still not the best choice of material for anything that must endure the elements.
